Zambia: RB Salutes Grey Zulu

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has commended former UNIP secretary general, Grey Zulu for his efforts in liberating Zambia from colonial powers.

Speaking during the burial of Mr Zulu's son, Agrippa in Lusaka yesterday, President Banda said Mr Zulu was a freedom fighter who sacrificed everything to ensure that the country was liberated from colonial rule.

President Banda said this in a speech read for him by Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Ronnie Shikapwasha during the burial of Agrippa, Mr Zulu's son who died in England last week.

"Zambia owes a lot to Mr Zulu for the services that he rendered to the country.

"As a Government, we are highly grateful to Mr Zulu for working for this country and that is the more reason why we assisted during the funeral of Agrippa as well as bringing back the body home," President Banda said.

And family representative Fisho Mwale said that the Zulu family was appreciative of the assistance rendered by the Government as well as other citizens.

Mr Mwale said without the support from the Government and other citizens, the funeral burden would have been huge for the Zulu family to bear.

The funeral church service was held at Mr Zulu's farm in Makeni.

Burial took place at Old Leopard's Hill Cemetery.
