Abuja — Officials of the FCT National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three drug suspects allegedly caught in possession of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp), weighing 33.150 kilograms.

NDLEA FCT Commandant, Mrs. Omolade Omole, who paraded the three suspects at Gwagwalada Thursday, said the suspects concealed the Indian hemp inside a fuel tanker truck with registration number XG664 ABJ that belongs to Nana Oil.

She said the NDLEA was tipped after the tanker took off from Lagos and was heading to Suleja.

"NDLEA officials immediately mounted a road block for about 48 hours at Giri- junction in anticipation of the arrival of the truck and intercepted it," she said.

According to her, the driver of the vehicle jumped out and escaped, abandoning the truck at the centre of the road.

"All we could do was to invite the police at Giri-junction to assist us in removing the tanker from the road, after which we alerted the driver's employers at Suleja," she said.

Mrs Omole informed that on searching inside the tanker, Indian hemp weighing 33.150 kg was discovered and concealed inside two sacks and a traveling bag near the passenger and driver seats, adding that three suspects caught inside the tanker denied owing the hard drug.

She said the tanker and suspects are in police custody at Gwagwalada, while the tanker company's management has been ordered to produce the fleeing driver, adding that the suspects will soon be charged to court.
