Nigeria: Emir Tasks Yar'Adua on Political Rivalry

Katsina — Emir of Katsina Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman has urged President Umaru Musa Yar'adua to move against bitter political rivalry among politicians to curb unnecessary loss of lives and property.

Speaking on Saturday while turbaning the Malumfashi council chairman, Abdul'aziz Danyari as the "Garkuwan Kudun Katsina" and other traditional title holders in his palace, the emir called on the president to redirect political energy towards arresting the high degree of poverty among Nigerians.

He wondered why political leaders engage in personal ventures to the extent of harming or even killing others, neglecting the misery it causes the common man.

He observe that Nigeria is endowed with vast human and material resources, yet its citizens wallow in abject poverty and squalor with the leadership living flamboyantly at the expense of the citizens, warning the leaders to realise that they would account for their deeds in the hereafter.

The emir called on those turbaned to live above board and strive to justify the confidence reposed in them by being good ambassadors of the state and the country while urging the citizenry to be law abiding and intensify their prayers.
