The East African region is slowly gliding into film making and the movie producers make use of film festivals.
The 6th Amakula Kampala international film festival is that platform that offers inspiration and developing the cinema culture in Uganda.
For the cinema goers, the festival offers a various range and variety of movies that are not the usual blockbusters. The viewer is treated to the low budget movies, short stories and documentaries. Movies like Gomorrah and sonata among others.
The Film festival that started this week showcasing the various movies produced locally and internationally.
These are mainly movies with independent producers that never get red carpet movie premiers. Considering the influx of Nigerian Movies around the region, it has had an impact on local producers to also produce. However the criticism for the Nigerian movies has been that their movies still lack beautiful stories.
For the local Ugandan producers, it remains the limited capital and the scarcity of the proper equipment.For the young producers the festival has opened up exposure. The young producers like Patrick Sekyaya who has had his movie "Book of Life" feature at the Durban international film festival says that the future of film is in the youth. He also says that its about having a beautiful story that one can tell a through a movie.
