interview
Wilson Ewaru is the patron Children Aids Fund at Early Learning Centre Primary School in Entebbe. He helps children compose poems, songs and skits that create awareness on HIV/ Aids in a bid to spread messages to the community.
What were you like as a child?
I was a leader who would mobilise fellow students to express our rights when something was not right. I also participated in a number of activities including sports and clubs such as HIV/Aids Club where we would sensitise students about ways of preventing it.
Did you cry all the time?
I was a first borne in our family. Being a boy and an elder brother kept me strong enough not to show my emotions by breaking down.
What inspired you as a child?
My late Science Teacher Joseph Eteru. He was a genius in practical subjects and when we he taught everyone would understand him well. He was my mentor because he made me the good science teacher I am today.
Your childhood memories:
I remember the days I lied to my classmates that there were hyenas outside school compound if they moved out of their room in the night. They later realised that I was lying to them and they all laughed at me.
What activities did you participate in while at school?
I actively engaged in drama acting, art work like molding, making hoe handles, playing football and volley ball among others.
What makes you happy?
When I see my students excelling in the subject I teach because it makes me know that they will have a good future.
Schools attended
I went to Oloba Primary School in Soroti where I joined Kamudo Secondary School for my O'level. I after enrolled to Soroti Primary Teachers College for teacher's training certificate.
Advice for children?
I urge the children to stay safe at school, respect teachers and elders and read hard for a bright future.
