Nine months after he ruptured his knees featuring for his club - G4S Pirates - Felix Lubega is almost forgotten. The physical and mental pain has been so much to bear that no sportsman could envy being in his present state.

But in every situation, there's always light at the end of the tunnel. On Friday, Lubega underwent surgery on his left knee at Kijabe Hospital in Limuru town, located on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley about 30 miles North-West from Nairobi, Kenya.

Lubega will BE out of rugby for some time.

"Doctors performed reconstructive surgery on my left knee and said it was a success. I am happy it's done but the only problem now is that this place is so hidden. You can only come here when you are very sick," Lubega, a winger, told Sunday Monitor on phone.

Lubega, top scorer in the 2008 15s league with 16 tries, travelled with the Pirates physiotherapist - Dr. Dickens Akena.

"It's been a very tough time for me. I have endured so much egg-on-the-face from fans, teammates and friends but I will be well."

However, Lubega is another year away from playing the sport he loves so much. "After this, doctors will perform arthroscopic menisectomy on my right knee in January then I can be able to undergo physiotherapy and rehabilitation for four months until May.

"In six months (from January), I can sprint and start side-stepping then I will be able to play contact rugby in September (2010)."

Lubega, also part of the Rugby Cranes set up, fractured his knee in a league game against Entebbe Mongers in February and has not played since.
