Uganda: Court Orders British Airways to Compensate Passenger

Kampala — Court has ordered British Airways to compensate a passenger who was denied boarding pass at Entebbe International Airport on claims that his pass port was not genuine.

The head of Commercial Court, Justice Stella Arach Amoko ordered the airlines to pay Shs15 million in damages to Kampala Businessman, Mr Sowed Lubega as compensation for the inconvenience caused to him. "The plaintiff in the case prayed for Shs67 million and costs for damages caused to him, I think Shs15 million will compensate him for the troubles faced, in the result I enter judgment for Shs15 million with interest at Court rate from date of judgment till payment in full and costs," the Judge ordered.

Mr Lunega sued British Airways for breach of contract claiming that on August 7, 2001, Ms Jacky Musoke, the airport manager of the airlines stopped him from boarding a plane at Entebbe International Airport to London- Gatwick. Mr Lubega claimed he was on a business trip to London.
