Uganda: Acting Kyabazinga Suspends Sale of Kingdom Property

Abubaker Kirunda

9 November 2009

The acting Kyabazinga Daudi Kaunhe Mululuya has suspended any sale and purchase of property belonging to the kingdom. Mr Kaunhe on Friday told the press in Jinja Town that the ban follows a discovery that a number of kingdom property including land have been sold without his knowledge as the acting kyabazinga.

"Land surrounding the official kyabazinga palace has been allocated to individuals. I am shocked," he said. He said the illegal sale of property in the kingdom started after the death of Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki in September 2008.

Mr Kawunhe said he has also nullified all agreements for the property bought by anyone from the kingdom after the burial of Muloki. He said the sale of any kingdom property will not be made legal until Busoga gets a Kyabazinga who is not disputed, adding that some people have been forging signatures to sell off kingdom property.

According to Mr Kaunhe, the kingdom lawyers have been instructed to compile a list of all kingdom property and recover those which have been fraudulently sold. Mr Kaunhe appealed to the government to intervene and help the kingdom recover the property illegally sold.
