Awka — A non-governmental organization (NGO), Centre For Victims of Extra Judicial Killings and Torture (CVEKT-AFRICA), has called on President Umaru MusaYar'Adua and the Inspector General of Police Ogbonna Onovo to rise to the challenges of insecurity posed by kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country.
The CVEKT-AFRICA in a statement endorsed by its Executive Director, Rev Fr Tony Amarube, decried the rate of kidnappings in the polity and said if reduced would restore the confidence in the country as a safe place for foreign investments.
The group called on the Federal Government and its agencies to beef up security in all states of the federation, particularly south-east zone where there have been several reported cases of kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Addressing newsmen jointly the Executive Director of CVEKT-AFRICA Rev Fr Tony Amarube, and its south-east director, Mr. Frank Agu and Programmes Director, Mr. Ekwo Jude noted that matters concerning kidnapping and violent crimes should not be treated with passion but should be allowed to go through the normal law courts.
