Kampala — Namugongo Girls' Boarding Primary School celebrated its Environment Day celebrations recently. The theme of the day was "Green the environment". This was a climax of the three month activities that included planting trees and flowers in the school compound.
The pupils, holding placards, went around the school neighbourhood sensitising the residents about the importance of keeping a good environment.
Valerie Kitaabona, the head girl, said the pupils have learnt a lot especially in keeping a good environment. "The girls no longer step on the grass and they all have a special liking for the flowers and the trees," she said.
She hailed the school administration for exposing them to the importance of keeping the environment clean.
The school headmistress, Agnes Nakabugo, said a conducive environment is good for the school and homes. She appealed to parents to encourage their children to keep the environment clean.
The assistant commissioner in charge of wetlands in the Ministry of Water and Environment, Lucy Iyango, was the chief guest.
