Kampala — ALL Saints Cathedral is to construct a new church in February that will be seven times bigger than the existing one.
The Nakasero-based Anglican church will accommodate 5,000 people in one service to cater for the increasing numbers of people which had forced the cathedral to use tents.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held next Sunday, presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi. The artistic impression of the new building will be officially unveiled today.
The new cathedral, estimated to cost sh10b, will have sufficient parking space, offices, health facility, printery, a children's church, a restaurant and a shopping centre.
Orombi, who is also the bishop of Kampala Diocese, told the congregation early this year that building the new cathedral would be one of his major priorities in the next five years. There will be a fundraising drive to raise money for the construction.
