THE former Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Declan Madu, has lauded the judgment of a Lagos High Court that sentenced a former chairman of the Nigeria ports Authority Chief Olabode George to prison for corruption and fraud.

Mr. Madu made the revelation shortly after the day's court proceedings to the Daily Champion while reacting to the judiciary as a tool to fight crime in the country. He maintained that even though he does not know the facts of the case, the whole episode according to him show that Nigeria has become serious in the fight against crime and corruption, pointing out that judiciary is not just talking but doing the work, according to him.

The former NBA boss reminded judges that no one is a sacred cow and then advised public officials that the time of business as usual is paving a way for business unusual, noting also that the day of reckoning has started coming for corrupt people in Nigeria.

The erudite lawyer vividly told public officers to shun crime, fraud and corruption hence it pays no dividends eventually and then reminded budding officers who feel that government business is an avenue to create wealth to disabuse their minds of such thought.

He then urged public officers to adhere strictly to their oath of office and then imbibe the fairness doctrine and equity to bring sanity into the system and be safe from the long arm of the law. He then lauded the EFCC for fishing out criminals in the system and punishing them appropriately.

On the Owerri NBA election crises, Mr. Madu said it was an in-house or a family affair and that the members are resolving the problem based on equity and fairness.
