Nigeria: Ex-NBA Boss Commends Conviction of Olabode George

Owerri — FORMER Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Declan Madu, has commended the judgment of the Lagos High Court that sentenced a former chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, Chief Olabode George, to prison for corruption and fraud.

Madu told Sunday Champion that the whole episode showed that Nigeria has become serious in the fight against crime and corruption.

He reminded judges that no one is a sacred cow and advised public officials to appreciate the fact that it is no longer business as usual.

He then urged public officers to adhere strictly to their oath of office and to imbibe fairness and equity in their dealings. He then lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fishing out criminals in the system and punishing them appropriately.

On the Owerri NBA election crisis, Madu said it was an in-house or a family affair and that the members are resolving the problem based on equity and fairness.
