Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Assures Corps Members of Adequate Security

Maiduguri — Borno State Governor Senator (Dr.) Ali Modu Sheriff has charged batch "C" corps members deployed to the state to work hard as their predecessors and engage themselves in innovative thinking in discharging their national duty to their father land.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Adamu Dibal, said there was no doubt that the NYSC had achieved its set objectives in the last 36 years and is still doing more. He recalled that the landmark achieved by their predecessor many years ago is still fresh and important to the benefiting communities. According to the governor, reports reaching his office indicate that since the commencement of the orientation course last Tuesday, the batch "C" corps members have been participating actively in all camp activities. "I must confess that I am truly impressed by the way you have conducted yourselves so far.

I want to believe that you will not only do better than what we have seen so far but surpass the records your predecessors have set in the past orientation courses." He said. He reminded the corps members that the ideals of the NYSC schemes must be brought to bear in their interactions with the people especially youths who do not have the privilege of participating in the scheme. He added that Borno State is the home of peace as such they must also become apostles of peaceful co-existence among people of diverse tribes and religion.

The governor also promised that as government, it would do everything within its powers and resources of government to improve their welfare and would continue to provide the enabling environment and adequate security. Earlier in his speech, the State Co-coordinator, Alhaji Habibu Kurawa said that they had introduced a new programme in the camp tagged "show-case your rich cultural heritage" as part of assimilation process. He then advised the corps members to avoid all acts capable of disrupting the smooth running of the orientation course. He however, warned them to desist from from all unlawful activities such as cultism, drug abuse and other related anti social behaviors on camp, adding that machineries have been put in place to make sure that those who involve themselves in these unlawful acts are fished out and handed over to the law enforcement agencies for appropriate disciplinary action. Meanwhile, the Chairman NYSC state governing board, Alhaji Ali Abatcha has assured them that,the people of Borno state are hospitable, peace-loving and kind as such they should not entertain any fear of molestation or ill-treatment throughout their stay in the state.
