UDSM and Tallis swimming clubs put in scintillating displays to emerge joint winners of the National Swimming Championship held at Heaven of Peace Academy in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
The clubs excelled in the men's category after garnering 126 points from butterfly, backstroke, back crawl and breaststroke events.
The Dar es Salaam-based clubs were outstanding in all categories of the hotly contested event with JKT taking the third spot.
UDSM's women side also triumphed after posting a wafer thin win over the second-placed, Tallis while Dar es Salaam Swimming Club (DSC) claimed the third position.
DSC sealed their magnificent victory in the Under-16 category followed closely by hard fighting Tallis.
Other teams, which took part in the tournament included Hopak, Aga Khan Mzizima, Dar Sharks and Arusha.
Following their brilliance, UDSM, Tallis, JKT and DSC will represent Tanzania mainland in the Union Championships that would get underway in two weeks.
The Tanzania Swimming Association's (TSA) secretary general, Noel Kiunsi heaped praise on the athletes saying they were "very competitive".
The victorious clubs were presented with shiny trophies while the individual winners went home with medals.
The official said: "Swimming has made long strides of recent, but we should avoid complacency and strive to reach the highest level."
In the last year's competition, University of Dar es Salaam Swimming Club and Dar Swimming Club clinched the men and women's titles respectively.
