Kolawole Motunrayo, a middle-aged housewife, and two others yesterday appeared before an Ilorin Magistrate's Court for allegedly killing two children of the same parents.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mariam Adewuyi, 55, trader and Hannah Owogbami, 43, trader were also docked for alleged conspiracy that led to the death of Oluwafemi Ajewole and Christiana Ajewole.
All the accused reside in, Offa, Garage area of Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), one Idowu Ajewole reported that on September 28, her neighbour, Motunrayo, sent his son, Oluwafemi to buy cooked rice and beans for her.
She said the accused gave the plate containing beans to the boy and his sister, Christiana to eat, only for them to complain of stomach ache and later died at the hospital.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the accused "conspired to poison the children."
Inspector Jimoh Raheem, in his address objected to bail for the accused on the ground that the offence did not attract bail.
Mr. Toyin Onaolapo, counsel to the accused, prayed the court to discountenance the submission of the prosecutor, noting that the law presumed the accused persons innocent until the contrary was proved.
He said the accused would not jump bail and were ready to stand trial.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bio Ibrahim, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties each and adjourned the case to November, 25.
