Botswana: Notwane Suspend Moloi

Tshepo Molwane

6 November 2009

When struggling Gaborone giants, Notwane face rookies Motlakase at the Molepolole Sports Stadium tomorrow, they will be without their promising young striker, Pako Moloi who has been slapped with a month-long suspension for alleged indiscipline.

This means that he will start competing for a place in Toronto's line-up from December 1.

Pako is the younger brother to former Notwane stars, Pontsho and Dirang who play for Bay United in South African First Division and Mochudi Centre Chiefs respectively.

Notwane manager, Thazo Tiwayi said yesterday that they decided to slap Moloi with suspension because of his failure to attend training on a regular basis. "This (missing training) has become a habit to the youngster and we felt the best way was to suspend him. I have talked to him on several occasions but he has not improved. During the last transfer window, he was one of the players we wanted to get rid of because of this attitude. We decided to give him a lifeline and I am disappointed nothing has changed," he said.

The Notwane official pointed out that Pako has the potential to be among the best strikers in the country but unfortunately he does not realise this. "Maybe that is why he is behaving in an unacceptable manner," he said. Tiwayi told Mmegi Sport that Pako has since written an apology letter, which the committee will look into before making a decision. Pako last played for Notwane in the 3-2 loss by cross-town rivals Township Rollers at the UB Stadium on October 23. He scored the opener for Toronto in the five-goal thriller.

Meanwhile, Tiwayi denied reports that right-back, Thabo Mbole has also been suspended for indiscipline. It is reported that Mbole is sorting out personal problems and will be back in training next week.

Tiwayi is confident that they will get maximum points when they entertain Motlakase tomorrow afternoon. He added that they have been working hard in training and the boys are focused. "We have not been playing badly, it is only that we have been missing chances and conceding soft goals.

I think the coach has addressed that and we will be celebrating come Saturday (tomorrow)," said the manager.

Tiwayi is expected to once again call the shots from the bench alongside assistant coach Moran Nthomiwa. Head coach Ernest Kofi who joined Toronto recently from Ghana is still waiting for his work permit. "I am confident that the coach will be able to sit on the bench as soon as his papers are ready," Tiwayi said.
