Nigeria: Team Shines in World Golfers Championship

The impressive outing which characterized the National Finals of the MTN-sponsored World Golfers Championships in Abuja last August was replicated in far away Marbella, Spain as the MTN World Golfers Invitational representatives comprising Austin Ojomo (Handicap 0-5) and Femi Feyide (Handicap 6-10) came third in the WGI team play championship.

The World Golfers Invitational (WGI) is a parallel tournament contested alongside the World Golfers' Championship (WGC) amongst business executives and high net worth individuals from various participating countries. A total number of 23 countries took part in this year's WGI.

Notable amongst Nigerian participants this year were Akin Ososanya, a foremost corporate lawyer; Victor Akinbayo, a director of Guaranty Trust Assurance and an international insurance broker; Honourable Tsegba, a member of the Federal House of Representative in Nigeria; Sir Chika Chiejina, Captain, IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja and Peter Eben-Spiff of NNPC, who took the trophy in the Handicap 11-15 category.

Bola Akingbade, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Nigeria in jubilation explained, "Through the WGC and WGI, MTN Nigeria has once again reaffirmed its corporate social values of leadership, innovation and relationship. We believe in enriching the lives of our customers by creating experiential opportunities for them. We are also intent on building a lasting legacy of support, partnership and exciting golfing experience in and outside Nigeria for Nigerians."

According to Akingbade, "for years MTN has thrown its weight behind the competition, but beyond what was achieved in the past two years, today, we are truly riding high. The feat from the world largest amateur championship is above the usual, this is innovation."
