Abuja — After three years of conceptualisation, the process of developing the permanent headquarters of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has commenced, this follows the signing of a N10.38billion contract agreement between Messrs Julius Berger Plc and PTDF at the weekend in Abuja.
This signing is coming three months after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the award of the contract to the construction giant at the cost of N1 0.38 billion, according to the Executive Secretary of the PTDF,Engr.Muttaqua Rabe Darma. Darma, speaking at the contract signing ceremony, said that the PTDF strives to have the most intelligent building that will attract organisations interested in renting parts of the building. "PTDF desires to generate funds from renting the building out to fund its intervention projects as there is no better investment today in Abuja than property," he said. Darma hoped that at the end of two years when the building is expected to be delivered, it should be able to generate enough money to cover personnel cost of staff and to some extent also cover operational cost.
He said the design of the building will continue to be amended in such a manner that the tower originally planned as the office of the Executive Secretary's office will be made to accommodate most if not all staff of PTDF, while the rest of the building including the conference rooms will be leased to generate revenue. Darma urged Julius Berger Plc to keep to the terms of the contract including delivery period as the Fund will not tolerate any delays .Adding that on the part of PTDF, it will not delay payments as long as it falls within the specified time frame as provided by the Public Procurement act. Responding, the Managing Director of Julius Berger, Nigeria, Gotsch Wolfgang gave assurance that there will be no delays in the project.
