Abuja — A 30-year-old driver has being arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate's court for alleged reckless driving. The driver, Kayode Ilugbode, was accused of driving a tipper a dangerous manner at Airport Road, by Gosa junction that led to an accident involving a Honda Accord car with registration number FT 322 EKY. Prosecutor Jeremiah Elijah stated in court that the truck hit the Honda car from behind and in the process the car veered off the road before somersaulting. "The occupants of the car sustained minor injuries, while the vehicle was damaged beyond repair," he said. The prosecutor narrated further that the accused absconded after the accident but was arrested by some policemen who traced him to Lugbe Tipper Garage, and later brought him to the police station.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested bail, which was not objected to by the prosecutor. Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna granted the accused ball in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum. "The surety must live within the court's jurisdiction and have a fixed address as well as ensure the accused's presence in court," the magistrate ruled. The case was adjourned to November 11 for hearing.
