Kumasi — A NEW branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) has opened at Tanoso in Kumasi to basically serve the Kumasi campus of the University College of Education and surrounding communities.
It is the sixth to be opened in Kumasi, after the branches at Adum, KNUST, Alabar, Suame and Kejetia
Kumasi thus has the second highest number of branches out of the total of 26 fully networked branches in Accra, Tema, Kumasi , Takoradi and Aflao.
Commissioning the branch, the Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Gabriel Edgal, disclosed that UBA has, following the completion of rights issue, raised GH¢60 million required for Universal banks by December 2009.
The Managing Director said the entire capital raised has increased the bank's shareholders funds to over GH¢60 million required by the BoG, making the bank more capable of supporting both the public and private sector operators of the economy.
Mr. Edgal said the roll out strategy is part of the bank's vision of democratizing banking, and bringing banking services to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian, through unique banking products which are supported by a superior online, real-time technology platform.
He assured customers of the bank's commitment to offer world class customer driven banking solutions to its growing customers and said the bank's strategy of a rapid branch roll out is an indication of high level of confidence that the bank's shareholders have in the development of the Ghanaian economy.
He said customers can enjoy such innovative collections and payment solutions as UBA Afritrade (for intra African trade), UBA Africash (Cash transfers across Africa) and Africard - which allows customers to use their ATM cards in all 19 countries that UBA operates across Africa.
The MD also mentioned other banking services provided by UBA, such as Wise-Alert, instant notification of transactions on mobile phones classified as UMobile, UDirect and E-statements, among others. The bank, Mr. Edgal said also offer a wide range of customer loans to meet individual requirements.
UBA, according to Mr. Edgal, is presently running joint promo with Electroland and Omatek for salaried workers nationwide to purchase interest free Samsung electronic gadgets or Omatek computer over a 12 month period.
UBA Ghana is also in partnership with Aqua Viterns Rand Limited, operators of Ghana Water Company, E-tranzact and four other banks toe launch a new water bill payment system, using mobile phones from the comfort of to their homes and offices.
Mr. Edgal said this service adds to other existing service partnerships for Electricity, DSTV and Databank funds; including Epack, Mfund bill payments at all the braches of the bank across the country.
