The scripture of Deuteronomy 14:29 says the stranger and fatherless and widows who are within your gate may come and eat and be satisfied, the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
This is what the Salkan Christ Foundation (SCF), a wing of Christian Friends of Democracy (CFD), non-governmental organisation (NGO), has done to give a new breath of life to widows, the aged and underprivileged children in society, as it has earmarked the construction of a recreational centre to cater for their needs.
The aim of the organisation is to show care, love and re-open another chapter of life in the lives of underprivileged in society, by providing for and supporting their day-to-day needs.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony here in Koforidua recently, the Executive Director of SCF, Mrs. Sarah Okantey, averred that the issues of rejection, frustration, and deprivation that have characterised the every day lives of these groups of people, would be a thing of the past, since her outfit had come to inject a new life and smiles into their lives.
Explaining why she decided to embark on the project, she disclosed that the plight of the group touched her heart over a year ago, and she started with eight women, but now the foundation could boast of over 200.
According to her, instead of supporting these single parents by their supposed husbands and families in order to care for their children's welfare in the areas of education and businesses, most of them were neglected and left to their fate.
This, she indicated, made most of them to lose their children, and even die before their time, through mental, social and material trauma.
Mrs. Okantey however, called on the judiciary, civil society, media and law enforcement bodies, parliamentarians and the government, to join the crusade and come on board to alleviate the plight of widows and te needy in society.
Recounting the contributions of the organisation, the President of the CFD, Rev. Samuel Adjei, said the his outfit had supported over 200 farmers in the area of farming, which earned them the Best District Co-operative Group Award during the 2003 Farmers' Day Celebration in the Akuapem South District.
He continued with the provision of portable drinking water and construction of 21 boreholes for 22 communities, campaign against HIV/AIDS, and scholarships for 736 pupils to pursue courses in basic education, secondary and tertiary institutions.
