Landing L Sidibeh, a student at the University of The Gambia (UTG) has commended the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh for establishing the Union Transport System Company (UTSCO) in the country, to ease the transport difficulties of Gambians especially those in the Greater Banjul Area.

Sidibeh also commended the management and staff of UTSCO for their efficient service to the nation, adding that the UTSCO is very beneficial to Gambians especially in the transport sector. He made these remarks recently, during an interview with the Daily Observer in Bakau Wasulung Kunda.

According to him, it is beyond doubt that the establishment of the UTSCO has definitely made means of transportation much more affordable and accessible to students, workers, the rich and even the poor, in most parts of The Gambia, adding that it has made life so much easier, by reducing the burden of having to struggle for transportation during rush hours. In addition to its affordability to the average Gambian, he added, it is swift and comfortable.

He said the only inconveniency is that due to the limited number of buses, some passengers usually stand on the bus while on course as the seats are not sufficient for everyone to occupy.

"Gambians particularly low income earners and students are appealing to H.E the president to increase the number of UTSCO buses to enable more citizens to enjoy the moderate and efficient service it provides to the nation," he said.

He further said that in order for the management of UTSCO to intensify efficiency and punctuality in their service to the nation, a specified daily routine schedule of the busesÂ' arrival and departure hours, from various destinations within the Greater Banjul Area should be prepared. He said the commuters should also assist the management of UTSCO to keep the buses clean.

"They should remember that the roadworthiness of the buses is to everybodyÂ's advantage," he pointed out, otherwise, he noted, it is commuters that will suffer rather than management of UTSCO.

"On a final note, I would like to reiterate by appreciation to The Gambia's abled leadership and the entire management and staff of the Unit Transportation Service Corporation UTSCO for a job well done in making available conducive means of transportation for Gambians and non-Gambians alike.

May the growth of the enterprise expand to the extent that Gambians will never complain of transport difficulties and high cost of fare any more," he said.
