Gambia: School of Medicine's Third Batch Results Released

The school of medicine under the University of The Gambia has recently released the results of the 3rd cohort of final year students of the medical school, on Wednesday, 4th November 2009, at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Emmanuel Q Archampong, professor emeritus of surgery at the University of Ghana Medical School in Accra and also a member of the seven external examiners, said the questions were standard for the students in The Gambia and that they have participated fully. He revealed that 19 students sat to the exams and 17 students have satisfied the examiners, only 2 students failed.

Professor Lawrence Osei, Professor of Community Medicine University of Ghana Medical School in Accra, said the students have done well in community health aspect of the exams, and all the students have passed by 2 credits. He added that the school is planning for a better future.

Professor Yousoufa Sacko, department of Neurosurgery, University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCA) Dakar and Professor Mustapha Sarr, department of Cardiology le Danta Hospital, University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) Dakar, also remarked that they are sure that the school can make it and that if the university needs any kind of help from them, they are ready to help. They also said that if the school continues like this it will be the must famous in Africa.

Professor Dr Pattric Adday, the chief medical director, RVTH, said he is very happy that the results are good. He added that if the students do well it reflects on him because he is the consumer; the students will be coming to the hospital to perform as doctors.
