Gambia: CDDP Conducts Training On CBPM

The Community Driven Development Project (CDDP), recently concluded a three-day training on community based performance monitoring (CBPM), at the Kindergarten Watten Scheld in Brikama Kabafita, Western Region.

The community development facilitator at the community development office in Western Region, Tombong Keita, told the Daily Observer that the topic of this training is Multi-Discipline Facilitation Teams (MDFTs) comprising extension workers from line departments working in Western Region.

He revealed that after the training, workers are expected go to the communities (as part of the 2008 intervention project targeting, 18 villages) to support the village development committees and villages to use the community-based performance monitoring mythology, which will respond to the following purposes: to elevate the development planning at village level, evaluate the level of satisfaction of the beneficiaries with quality of development services received from the MDFTs and to contribute to the process of community empowerment.

In her opening remarks, Mama Janneh-Sawaneh welcomed the participants and explained the importance of the training to the overall monitoring and evaluation exercise which reflects in social accountability and community performance. She also advised the MDFTs to keep up the momentu.

The financial controller of CDDP in Brikama, Mkey Gassama, said community score card process is seen as part of monitoring and evaluation system and that it is the key part of CDDP implementation process. Gassama further said that the monitoring and evaluation system is used to track the process of the outcomes and results based on results as management tool to be used by both project staff and participating communities.

At village and ward levels, citizens will do monitoring and evaluation to track the progress of desisted outcomes and results that have been identified as part of the development planning process. She concluded by saying that the system will be managed by communities themselves through utilisation of community score card approaches with the technical support of the MDFTs and COAs.

Speaking at the occasion, the governor of Western Region said the implementation of CDDP strategies which is in line with the Local Government Act, also calls for the effective implementation of programmes, thereby ensuring sustainability. Sanneh also advised the participants to facilitate the implementation of village projects for a reborn of CDDPs so that the other communities can also benefit.
