Tunis — The Unionist Democratic Union (UDU) pointed out that Tunisia is celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the Change, in a climate of confidence and optimism about the Tunisians' ability to carry on their development work away from all forms of tutelage and meddling with home affairs, especially after the outstanding success of the presidential and legislative elections of October 25, 2009, an operation which took place in total transparency and respect of the law and met Tunisian people's expectations and aspirations.
In a statement released on Friday, UDU reminds that the celebration of the 22nd anniversary of the Change came one day after the Head of State's pardon of some detainees.
UDU considers this presidential pardon as a gesture which gives strength among Tunisians to the sentiment that climate in their country is a sound one and that their future is ensured.
UDU voices pride to have made an active contribution to the success of the presidential and legislative elections, commending the important gains and achievements accomplished in Tunisia at all levels.
It underscores the crucial part played by the national parties in conceiving of the outlines of tomorrow's Tunisia and enriching the gains that will help the country make new strides on the path of progress and prosperity and join the advanced countries' ranks. UDU reiterates determination to persevere and exert greater efforts to preserve the national sovereignty and prevent all those who preach alienation or attempt from harming the autonomy of the country's decision.
It also reasserts its opposition to all regression forces.
UDU believes that the climate of confidence and respect, which was strengthened thanks to the last elections, represents the best opportunity for launching a new generation of political reforms that would help Tunisia have access to new advances on the way of consecration of the democratic choice which constitutes a strategic option for all political forces.
It calls to institutionalise dialogue to foil manoeuvres of those who doggedly seek to copy ready-to-made democratic models, so as to bolster the national front and face up the endogenous and exogenous challenges.
UDU voices confidence in the Tunisians' capacities to be solidary in the face of adversity, underlining that exclusive allegiance to the homeland should top all other considerations.
UDU reasserts commitment to strive responsibly to boost the reform burst initiated since the Change, an impulse which has placed Tunisia on the road it has chosen for itself.
In conclusion, UDU expresses hope that Tunisia will begin a new stage on the way of the national edification to further enrich the gains and open up broader prospects to materialise the national aspirations, away from any forms of subordination or regression.
A stage in which there will be no room left either for detractors or cowards, and where there will be no voice above Tunisia's sovereignty and the autonomy of its decision.
