Tunis — The politburo of the People's Unity Party (PUP) underlined, in a communiqué released after its Friday meeting, its conviction that President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali will carry on leading the country with the same commitment he has shown since the November 7, 1987 Change to finish off the process of democratic and pluralistic construction in a continuous and frank climate of dialogue that ensures social peace and national solidarity.
PUP underlines, in its communiqué, that the party is committed to the national agenda and keen on participating in promoting the country on the path of comprehensive development, social stability and integrity of human rights.
The politburo indicates that positive climate and serious dialogue are the only conditions allowing to develop political life. PUP argues that the significant gains made in this area foiled the campaigns conducted by some foreign sides and those allied with them among Tunisians who, by no means, represent the Tunisian public opinion, who have no weight and no aim but to execute agendas of foreign parties who take umbrage at the political and social stability prevailing in the country.
After praising the presidential decision to pardon a number of detainees, the politburo of PUP reiterates, in its press release, its faith in the Tunisians' ability to solve their own problems without foreign interference, and its conviction that democracy is a popular and official choice in Tunisia whose choice and implementation remain the national forces' exclusive prerogative.
PUP expresses, in this context, hope to see, on the celebration of the anniversary of the Change, all sides, be they in power and not, to seek to promote political life and civil society.
The politburo also praises PUP's participation in the recent elections, considering that the results of this participation was all in all a positive one.
