Tunis — The politburo of the Green Party for Progress (PVP) met, under chairmanship of its Secretary-General Mr. Mongi Khammassi, to examine issues related to national life and the party's activity.
In a statement released after the meeting, the politburo members express joy after the honour lavished on their Secretary-General on the occasion of the audience granted to him by President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali.
The politburo underlines that this gesture "translated the interest that the Head of State takes in the activities of the different parties and the will driving him to further promote the national political scene, in such a manner as to enrich the path of dialogue and listen to the different opinions."
The PVP politburo renews, in this statement published on the celebration of the 22nd anniversary of the Change, congratulations to the Head of State and to all the Tunisian people after the unanimity that marked the success of the presidential and legislative elections of October 25.
This unanimity, it adds, came to highlight progress of the electoral and political landscapes in Tunisia, in such a manner as to prompt achievement of more successes and gains, strengthen pluralism and democracy and consolidate the foundations of national consensus and areas of political participation among the different national parties.
PVP also praises the President of the Republic's decision to grant pardon to some detainees on the 22nd anniversary of the Change.
The politburo extends best wishes to President Ben Ali and the Tunisian people on the 22nd anniversary of the Change, a decisive turning point that helped the country forge ahead on the path of progress, stability and security and enhanced its steady progress to join the ranks of advanced countries.
PVP expresses hope to see the 23rd year of the Change will strengthen the national consensus on all issues and files, calling to enrich thinking on the contents of the National Pact which should be the foundation of any collective action undertaken among the different sides, be they the Government, administration, political parties, components of civil society, etc.
PVP politburo condemns the tendencious campaigns aimed to cast doubt on the transparency of the recent elections, repudiating attempts made by several foreign sides to meddle with Tunisia's home affairs, such as those statements of the Mayor of Paris and of several other detractors who dream of returning to the era of colonisation and slavery and who seek to spread a false image of Tunisia's democratic and pluralistic reality and deny freedoms and respect of human rights in a free, independent and sovereign country that has made strides on the path of modernisation and democracy.
PVP reiterates its attachment to defending the higher interest of the nation and its free decision, as well as its rejection of any interference with the country's internal affairs. PVP politburo members also stressed the positive participation of the party in the recent elections, recalling that PVP backed, on that occasion, President Ben Ali's candidacy for a new presidential term.
The politburo deemed positive the party's participation in the legislative elections which allowed it to win 6 seats at the Chamber of Deputies, reflecting its appropriate approach though it is a young party, calling on the party's representatives in parliament to endeavour to materialise the electoral platform of the Head of State "Together We Meet Challenges."
