Arusha — A nine year old female pupil of Ndoombo primary school in Arumeru district, Happiness Ombeni has been killed by two youths also of the same village after repeatedly raping her on October 30.
Narrating the incident to reporters, Arusha's Regional Crimes Officer Leonard Paul explained the child had been sent by her father to deliver kerosene to her grand mother who stayed in her own house in the neighbourhood.
When returning home she was ambushed by the two suspects who police identified as Frank Marko (18) and Joseph Saiboku (20). They allegedly proceeded to rape her and subsequently killed her by slitting her throat using a panga (bush knife)
Efforts to trace the child that evening ended in vain but the following morning her naked body was found in a maize farm near the suspects' house. A tip off from confiding neighbours led to the arrest of the two men as suspected murderers.
A bundle of firewood that the grandmother had given to the child to carry home was found lying near the suspects' house. The two men were found with a blood stained panga (bush knife). Police also discovered blood that had been covered with earth on the floor.
Police said when the suspects were interrogated they allegedly acknowledged they killed the girl in order to get human blood needed by their traditional medicine man for a magic potion that would earn them abundant wealth.
The RCO explained that the two suspects led Police to the witch doctor, a resident of Ishinde village in Same district, Kilimanjaro region.
The witchdoctor was found with fetishes and other witchcraft items which police displayed to the media on November 3.
