Joseph 'King Kong' Agbeko last Saturday zoomed into the country without his IBF Bantamweight title, which he lost to Colombian challenger Yonnhy Perez in Las Vegas, barely a fortnight ago. But the former IBF champ is delighted, following the warm reception accorded him at the Kotoko International Airport (KIA), which according to him, has rekindled his sense of patriotism.
"What I have witnessed this morning has shown me that Ghana is a country worth dying for, the reception is awesome, and this alone tells me that Ghana is indeed a country worth dying for," said Agbeko, at the KIA VVIP Lounge.
In his humble self, he revealed that: "I'm glad that despite losing the crown, I feel humbled by this gesture, I thought there was no room for failures."
He stated that things did not go the way he expected it, and that he is moving straight to the drawing board to right the wrong that caused him the title.
Some of the supporters' groups thronged the Airport in their numbers to give the "Fresh King" a heroic welcome despite losing the crown. The supporters' group carried him shoulder high amid drumming and dancing at the VVIP car park.
Also at the Airport to welcome the Fresh King was Hip life artist, Tinny, who later in the day hosted Agbeko.
Nii Nortey Dua, the deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Worlanyo Agra, acting chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC), and boxing legend and GBA technical director Azumah Nelson, urged the "Fresh King" to gird up his loins and not to just give up.
"Boxing is like that, you win today, the next moment you are down. When things like this happen, it makes you cautious, I know you are good champion and when you esteem seriousness, you will reclaim the lost glory," Azumah stated.
In like manner, Hon. Nii Nortey Dua pointed out that: "I know you will succeed again, put yourself together, and my outfit will continue to rally behind you."
Meanwhile, Agbeko is scheduled to meet with the press this morning at the Silver Bird Cinema, where the Agbeko-Perez fight would be telecast, after which the media would interact with the former champion.
