Tunis — Since the opportune presidential decision in 2005 to open Tozeur's airport to international traffic, the oasis town of Tozeur now boasts 3 direct flights linking it respectively to the cities of Paris, Lyons and Nice.
At the end of this month, Tozeur will be directly connected to Madrid, thanks to a non-stop Tunisair flight.
For the occasion some 20 Spanish travel agents and tourism professionals will soon travel to Tozeur in view of taking stock of the region's tourist infrastructure.
The Spanish delegation will also take part in workshops, with local tourism professionals, including tour operators and hotel managers.
Observers note that the decision to launch the new direct connection between the Spanish capital and Tozeur is very timely, as Tozeur similarly to all of the southern regions in Tunisia, is readying to celebrate the national Day of Saharan tourism on November 12, 2009.
The event will mark the launch of a vibrant cultural activity through the organisation of a set of festivals throughout southern Tunisia, among which is the Tozeur Oasis festival and the Douz Saharan festival, which attracts each year thousands of visitors from all over the world.
