Nairobi — A draft law that seeks to disband the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission makes its way to Parliament when it reconvenes this afternoon after a two-month recess.
The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes (Repeal) Bill, 2009, by Garsen MP Danson Mungatana, is set for formal introduction in the House before it is debated.
The controversial Bill aims at repealing the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act and place Kacc under the attorney-general's office.
The Parliamentary Committee on Administration of Justice and Legal Affairs has already said it will not support the draft law.
The Bill came up after Parliament ruled that President Kibaki had not followed the law in reappointing former Kacc director Aaron Ringera and his two deputies.
The reappointment caused an uproar, which saw Mr Ringera resign shortly after Parliament's decision.
The Legal Affairs committee and that on Delegated Legislation had presented a report to the House proposing that the appointments be revoked.
The reform agenda, especially the constitutional review, is expected to be on Parliament's list of priorities.
Speaker Kenneth Marende pledged that Parliament will be expected to provide leadership to ensure the process of realising the new constitution is hastened.
