Kampala — The row between Kadongokamu artist, Mathias Walukagga and Ssalongo Kasawuli, the proprietor of Samona Products, has taken a new twist.

Walukagga was yesterday dragged to court and remanded to Luzira Prison.

Dressed in a dark-blue suit and donning a rosary, he was accompanied to court by his lawyers, Isaac Walukagga and Chrizestomu Katumba.

Walukagga appeared before Grade Two magistrate Immaculate Busingye of Makindye court, who remanded him to Luzira Prison for attempted extortion and demanding property by threats.

On October 20, court heard that Walukagga demanded sh60m from Kasawuli in order to drop his new song, Bwino Womutembeeyi.

Prosecution said the song contains defamatory messages against Kasawuli and his Samona products, which include body lotions.

Walukagga's lawyers demanded that exhibits, including recorded conversations and photos, to help them prepare for their defence.

The magistrate ruled that the exhibits be produced in court on October 14.

She adjourned the case till November 11 when Walukagga would re-appear in court.

There was drama as onlookers jammed the court, while others remained outside cheering Walukagga, who responded with thumbs-up signal as he walked to the Prisons bus.

Kasawuli also attended the court proceedings.

Earlier last week the court issued an order stopping the distribution and playing of Walukagga's two songs, Bwino Womutembeeyi and Tulepukke.

Kasawuli argues that the two songs were damaging his image and that of the company.

However, Abtex Productions and X-Zone International have threatened to sue Kasawuli, arguing that they bought the right to market the songs from Walukagga and had invested millions in the project.
