The Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) president, Mr Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, was on Saturday involved in an accident at Nyakadot near Bweyale Trading Centre, Masindi District.
This is the same place where the leader of opposition in Parliament, Prof. Morris Ogenga Latigo, was involved in an accident last month.
Mr Bidandi yesterday told journalists during a news conference at PPP headquarters in Kampala that his vehicle was knocked at around 7:00am by a cyclist who, after the accident, could not be traced by Police.
Mr Bidandi and former Arua MP Anim Angopale were travelling to Yumbe for a meeting with PPP supporters at the district.
His vehicle registration number UAH 784W, was hit on the left side. But Police say they are still hunting for the cyclist who disappeared after the accident.
None of the occupants was injured. "Had he hit us from the front direction, we would be dead," Mr Bidandi said yesterday, adding: "I am wondering why and how the motorcyclist disappeared. I am also wondering why it has to be at the same spot were Prof. Latigo was involved in accident.
"Could there be a foul play in this? I am left guessing. I am not insinuating anything but I am wondering about the coincidence of the accident. I think there must be something fishy."
No clues
After the accident, Mr Bidandi says he went to Bweyale Police Station and he picked a team of police officers, but when they came back to the scene, all traces of accident had reportedly been erased.
"I am a bit perturbed by the disappearance of any clue," Mr Bidandi said, adding: "After the accident, we could not see the motorcycle which hit us or the cyclist. They all disappeared. There is no way the cyclists could have disappeared after hitting us because we were travelling at 120km per hour."
The Officer in- Charge of Bweyale Police, Sgt . Charles Tumusiime, who led a team of investigators to the scene, told Daily Monitor yesterday that Mr Bidandi's accident is a big challenge to Police as they can not trace the accused.
"Yes, he reported the accident but we have failed to locate the accused person," Sgt. Tumusiime said, adding: "We have referred his case to the district traffic officer for further investigation."
