Uganda: Man Remanded Over Impersonation

A man who is alleged to have masqueraded as a State House official and conned the Executive Director of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Eng. David Luyimbazi was yesterday charged and remanded to Luzira Prison.

Mr Godfrey Ssekidde Lubowa was charged before Buganda Road Court with impersonating a public officer. He denied the charges and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Vincent Mugabo remanded him to Luzira Prison till November 23 when he will reappear in court to start defending himself.

Mr Mugabo advised him to apply for bail at Kampala High Court, anti corruption division since his court did not have jurisdiction to release him on bail.

Prosecution led by Ms Joyce Tushebe alleges that between October 28, and November 2 in Kampala city, the accused falsely presented himself to be Capt. Geoffrey Muwanga from State House and mandated in that capacity to investigate officials of Uganda National Roads authority.

Prosecution further alleges that the accused between October 28 and November 2 within Kampala demanded Shs10 million from Eng. Peter Willy Sebanakiita, an employee of the roads authority, not to investigate him.
