"Tshaka has given jazz music a crossover appeal, setting a new trend in Uganda," said Emmanuel Ssejjengo, the Arts Press Association (Apa) Secretary General, stating the reason why arts scribes decided to nominate and eventually vote the jazz and reggae singer, Tshaka Mayanja as the most outstanding artiste for the month of October.
Tshaka is now the fifth artiste to win monthly accolade. The event to recognise the October artiste was held at Steak Out on Saturday, on the sponsorship card of Uganda Waragi.

Tshaka beat competition from authors Peter Mayiga, the Buganda Kingdom spokesman and Miria Matembe. Charles Ssenkubuge and local TV series, Ka Kibe Ki, that airs on NTV were among the nominees.
Tshaka was recogniSed for having organized Jazz Safari 2000, attracting some of the biggest acts in the genre on October 8 at Serena Hotel. Among artistes that featured at the jazz show included Eric Marienthal, Chuck Loeb, Pragmo Cooper, Oscar Seaton, Afrigo's Moses Matovu, and Tshaka the man himself.
Uganda Waragi representative, Phoebe Nakabazzi said her organisation was to go a long way to sponsor all Apa activities in the spirit of making arts develop. She said she was glad for the scribes' initiative. Rasta Robo once a household name in spinning discs in the 90s joined the fun-filled night.
The cocktail also saw singer Bebe cool recognised for winning artiste of the month of September. Mr Ssejjengo said, "Bebe Cool was recognized for his charisma and turning his personal life into art." The artiste has this year released songs like Agenze, Bogolako and Bamugambe inspired by his estranged wife, Zuena.
There were performances from upcoming artistes like Naira Ali and Miranda Bridget.
