Nigeria: NIPCO Splashes N60 Million On Eye Treatment

Muhammad Kabir — As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Nigeria Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) has spent over N60 million in the treatment of over 1000 patients with varying eye defects in the country.

According to a director of the company, Alhaji Yakubu Muhammad, NIPCO is committed to helping the less privileged ones while calling on the three tiers of government to initiate programmes that would be targeted at the less privileged.

Yakubu said surgical operation technique was new in the country as the company brought doctors from India for the eye surgical operations.

He said in the process of conducting the surgical operations, some other patients were treated of hypertension, diabetes and HIV/AIDS diseases.

He said the company was ready to train doctors in Kano State and the nation on the new techniques, adding that the Indian doctors are ready to contribute to the development of humanity.

"The operation is done without cutting the patients and it does not take more than 30 minutes and immediately after the patient can go about with their normal business," he said.

He said the northern governors should be involved in the project by way of training their doctors on the technique, adding that the Indian doctors are doing this at no cost.

Yakubu said after Kano, they would be in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State and Lagos to ensure coverage of nation through the regional approach to ensure that Nigerians feel the impact of their presence.

Speaking also, the Kano state chairman of the IPMAN, Alhaji Bashir Bello, said they would collaborate with the NIPCO to ensure that it benefits from the programme.
