Nigeria: Council Boss Harps On Democracy Dividends

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area(LGA), Delta state, Hon. Matthew Edema, has disclosed that there was no ward in his local government that has not benefited from his administration.

Edema stated that over 40 projects are near completion, since him assumed office as the local government boss, a year and five months ago.

The LGA boss stated that, his administration is poised in bring the dividends of democracy to the people under his domain, as the present administration has embarked on physical projects that are verifiable, ranging from education, health, maintenance of peace and order and maintenance of roads.

Hon Matthew Edema made the disclosure at the maiden edition of "Meet The Press" being organized by the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, to intimate the press over their performance in office and their programmes for the people they governs.

He said for the past a year and five months of his administration, the local government has embarked on massive renovation of school blocks and building of fresh building class rooms in the various parts of the council to improved the educational standard of his people.

According to Edema popularly call 'Man Of God', "is about a year and five months that we were sworn in, we have embarked on more than 40 projects. Out of which almost all of them are near completion. There is no ward in Warri South that has not benefited from this administration. These are things that you can see and verify. Blocks of classrooms renovated, streets light in place in more than 6wards and a primary school knocked down is being built afresh.

"A construction of a new legislative arm, the one British Embassy is more interested in, the King George the IV Memorial Hall, we have also built solar water system and the building of the Modular fishing village."

On health, the Warri South council boss, stated that his administration from his assumption has not toy with the health of the people, as the council has always involved in the immunization and sanitation exercises to get the area raid of dirty, adding that it is his administration desire to bring good health to the least person in the council.

"There is hardly any sanitation exercise I am not present, that is why I was given an award by Nigeria Safety Institute due to my contribution environmental cleanliness. Warri needs to be clean. We are not just doing it during sanitation, we do it every day but, we are not doing it for the lager scale because of the resources", he said. Hon. Edema who was on the NUJ Hot Seat, also disclosed that his administration is near to present a bill to the council legislative arm to banned blocking of major roads for parties by the members of the public in the council.
