Umuahia — The Abia State government has indicated its plan to establish tracking devices that will help track down kidnappers in the state.
Governor Theodore Orji, who stated this when he received in audience at Government House, Umuahia, the new executive members of Aba Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA) led by the President, Sir Azuka Alagwu, said arrangements had also being concluded to acquire two helicopters to aid in the fight against crimes.
Orji explained that his administration had been in contact with the king pins of kidnappers who had indicated interests to lay down their arms and embrace peace if only government could guarantee their security, pointing out that he couldn't relent in its effort in the fight against crimes in the state. The governor, while commending members of ACCIMA for their concern regarding the way forward, appealed to the Federal Government to assist in the rehabilitation of deplorable federal roads in the state as the problem of roads in Aba, the commercial never centre of the state had gone beyond the capacity of the government.
The governor noted that the Aba-Owerri Road and Aba-Port Harcourt Road would gulp over N5 billion and gave assurance that contractors had gone back to sites to rehabilitate roads in Aba . Speaking earlier, the President, ACCIMA, Sir Alagwu said they appreciate the good efforts of the governor in the area of kidnapping and armed robbery, adding that they are making case through NACCIMA for the registration of SIM packs by GSM service providers.
He appealed to governor to provide the police with four additional high frequency radios, walkie talkies and additional five Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) to be stationed in Aba to assist security agencies in their operational frequency.
In another development, Governor Orji has stressed the need for investors to partner with the government in development of tourism in the state. Orji, who made the call when the member, representing Aba in the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Nnana Uzor Kalu, led members of the Afrique Models 2009 Award Presentation Eastern Carnival on a courtesy call, said the state has many tourism potentials begging for development.
The governor congratulated Chief Kalu for the award to be conferred on him by the Afrique Models, assuring that the state is prepared to host members of the Afrique models.
Earlier in his address, Kalu said he felt delighted bringing the models to the state to host their eastern carnival, pointing out that this would also help generate revenue for the state.
