Abuja — In a packed full U. J Esuene Stadium in Calabar last night Golden Eaglets of Nigeria defeated South Korea U-17 national team 3-1 to book a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing U-17 FIFA World Cup.
The defending champions opened score in the 23rd minutes through Ramon Azeez in the first half before the Koreans drew level at the 40th minute through Son Heunghua to end the first half one goal apiece.
On resumption of the second half, the John Obuh coached team made it two five minutes into the half through Abdul Ajagun in the 50th minute. The Golden Eaglets continued to pile pressure on the Asians and paid off five minutes to regulation time when Terry Envoh made it three. With this victory, the Nigerian lads have proved book makers right as a team good for the last four and possibly the finals.
The defending champions having scale through the fast Koreans will now face Spain who earlier defeated Uruguay in the first quarter-finals clash of the day played at the Kaduna centre. Spain defeated Uruguay 4-2 on penalties after 3-3 score line at regulation time. The Golden Eaglets next match will be played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Thursday in Lagos where the Lagosians are eagerly waiting to cheer them to victory against their Spanish opponents.
The other semi-final clash shall be between Switzerland and Colombia also on Thursday.
