Tornado Cricket Club bagged their second consecutive Castle Lager title on Sunday with still two fixtures in hand after defeating Rounders by seven wickets at Lugogo oval.
Kampala Institute of Cricket Clubs (KICC) had delayed Tornado from winning title two weeks ago when they subjected the latter to a 30-run defeat in Entebbe.
But national opening bowler Charles Waiswa ensured there was no repeat of such with a five-haul that limited Rounders to just 65 runs.
The run chase was no smooth transition for Tornado with Michael Kintu (3/26) threatening to mute the celebrations but all-rounder Frank Nsubuga calmed the nerves with a quick-fire 35 runs off 18 balls to seal the contest. "We deserved to win. Although we lost a couple ofplayers early on in the season like Joel Olweny who went to Canada, we were more consistent as proved by our results. We only lost to Africa Cricket Club (ACC) and KICC," said Waiswa, the Man of Match against Rounders.
In Entebbe, ACC rubbed more salt into Tornado B's relegation woes with a nervy two-wicket win on the unpredictable lakeside turf. Seam-bowler Ezra Mindyo was the star with a career best haul of 7 wickets for 16 runs to stall Tornado B's inning at 66 runs all out.
ACC huffed and puffed before reaching the target with two wickets in hand. Cyrus Kibukamusoke (6/23) threatened to spoil the party but ACC held its ground with Davis Turinawe (15) and Jacob Muddu (14) the only double-figure scorers. Wanderers beat KICC by 4 wickets in the other Super 7 tie. In the Plate League, Premier continued with its relentless search for promotion to the top flight next year with a five-wicket win over Charity at Budo oval.
