Nigeria: FCT Drive-Safe Campaign Kicks Off

In its effort aimed at reducing the spate of road accidents in thecity, a drive-safe campaign is being organised to caution the people against reckless driving.

The organisers, the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO), the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Make Roads Safe Organization, USA, the FIA Foundation, UK, the Samaritans International UK, GARF Nigeria, BBOTR, UK and other stakeholders is to commence a one-year International Drive Safe Campaign to address the avoidable decimation of the regulations by roads in FCT. A statement jointly signed by Hajiya Zainab I.

Mohammed, project secretary and Prince Nwazuruahu Sheild, Executive Coordinator, indicated that it will enthrone and sustain the culture of safe and responsible driving within the Federal Capital Territory, with the backing, support and blessing of relevant stakeholders. "This initiative goes beyond the Ember months sensitisation that had hitherto held. It is a programme that will be aggressively carried out in all the six Area Councils with our foreign and home-based traffic management experts will address concerned road users."

"In sincere recognition therefore, of your immense innovative contributions to the issue of road safety in Nigeria, the Central Working Committee of the campaign has nominated the Director General, NEMA, AVM Mohammed Audu Bida as patron for the campaign and the Honourable Minister of the FCT will be presenting you with your certificate of patronship on the flag-off date," the statement said.
