The fixtures for the 2009 Muhammed Yahya Jammeh's Perpetual Football Cup competition, formerly Zonal Football Championship, were announced over the weekend with defending champions Bakau starting their bid for a record third successive title against Gunjur at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium on September 21.
A clash against Sukuta at the same venue follows on September 24, before an expected cracker against Serrekunda West in the final Group A matches on September 30.Last yearÂ's runners up Banjul face arch rivals Brikama, Serrekunda East and Lamin in Group B. The City Boys will start their assault on the prestigious cup with an away clash against Serrekunda East on September 22, before facing Lamin in second group match.Revenge will be on the menu for the Capital Boys when they travel to Brikama Box Bar to take on Western Region giants in the final Group B match on December 1.The top two teams in each group will qualify to the semi-final stages.
A giant trophy and cash prize of D50, 000 await the prospective winners, while the tournamentÂ's second best team will bag a cash amount of D30, 000. The third best side will receive D20, 000, while other participating zones will receive a consolation prize of D10, 000 each. Each of the eight participating zones will receive a preparatory cost of D10, 000 before the start of the championship, which will be solely sponsored by the sports-loving Gambian leader, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Yahya Jammeh.
