The invitation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Prince Vincent Ogbulafor to Presidential Villa by President Umaru Yar'adua yesterday stalled the inauguration of the new Caretaker Committee constituted for Anambra State chapter of the party.

Last week, the party's National Working Committee (NWC) announced the dissolution of Chief Uchenna Emordi- led State Executive Committee, citing the expiration of their tenure as the major reason.

It, however, approved the constitution of an 8-member Caretaker Committee which is believed to be an assembly of loyalists to the party's gubernatorial candidate in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

The composition of this committee headed by Dr Osita Ogbu pending the election of new officials is also believed to have cut off the influence of the self-styled godfather of Anambra politics and a member of PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), Chris Uba.

Soludo, who was present at the PDP National Secretariat ceremony, entered the venue of the event and told members of the Caretaker Committee that President Yar'adua had summoned the National Chairman to the Presidential villa. He told them that "you know how it is when someone is summoned to the villa, as it is now we have to be on stand-by".

The former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, however, invited members of the Caretaker Committee to lunch, while awaiting the arrival of Ogbulafor from the presidential villa. As at 5 p.m while filing this report, the National Chairman had not returned for the inauguration ceremony.

Journalists who were at the venue of the ceremony observed that none of the members of the NWC showed up in preparation for the stalled inauguration, including the National Vice Chairman (South East), Chief Olisa Metuh, who oversees Anambra State.

Daily Trust gathered that since the announcement of Caretaker Committee, stakeholders in the state have been raising grave concern over putting the party structure under the control of an individual with the backing of the national leadership.
