The police recently arraigned a 45-year-old businessman before an Abuja magistrate court for allegedly trespassing into a shop belonging to one Mr. Obinna Anieke.
The businessman, Fidelis Obasi of Utako Market, Abuja, was accused of committing the offence on November 2, 2009 and was arrested by the police.
Prosecutor Abdul Alhassan informed the court that on November 2, 2009, one Mr. Obinna Anieke reported to the police that the shop he bought in 2008 was trespassed into by the accused.
He said during police investigation, the accused confessed to have criminally trespassed into the said shop.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail. Magistrate Omolola Oladipo granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two reliable sureties in like sums that must reside within the court's jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to December 22 for hearing.
In another court, a 27-year-old businessman recently denied shielding an accused person (Daniel Idachaba) from prosecution.
The businessman, Ereh Michael, who stood as surety for an accused person that jumped bail, was arraigned for not producing an accused pers.
The accused, Ereh Michael, of suite 8, Pa'al Asokoro Mall, Abuja, was arsted and arraigned for his inability to produce the accused that is standing trial for allegedly defrauding someone of N78,000.
Prosecutor Anigbo Paul told the court that on September 16, 2009, one Nwankwo Collins reported to the police that the accused failed to produce the accused he stood as surety for.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail, which was not objected to by the prosecutor.
Magistrate Rosemary Kanyip granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a reliable surety in like sum that must reside within the court's jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit to produce the accused in court on the adjourned date.
The case was adjourned to November 25 for hearing.
