Guaranty Trust Bank has secured a three-year rights to sponsor the Lagos State Principal's Cup, starting with this year' edition.
GTBank's Managing Director, Tayo Aderinokun, who was represented by Head of Communication and External Affairs, Lola Odedina, said the bank took the decision to sponsor the Principal's cup for three years as a result of its belief in the Lagos State government's youth and sports development policies.
"GTBank hopes, through its sponsorship, to redeem the image of the Principal's Cup and steer it back to its place of pride amongst sporting events in Nigeria."
Responding, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola commended the bank's consistent efforts over the years towards the development of the educational sector and also towards social development.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan, the governor stated that the bank's decision to take on the sponsorship for 3 years is indeed very commendable and promised the full support and cooperation of the Lagos State Government towards the actualization of the project.
The Lagos State Principal's Cup is the largest secondary school football competition in Nigeria. Lagos State has the highest number of secondary schools in Nigeria and this presents a fertile ground for youth development and also, the development of sporting talents that will reshape the sporting landscape in Nigeria in the nearest future.
