Luanda — The deputy chief of staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), gen. Salviano de Jesus Cerqueira "Kianda", Monday in Luanda highlighted the importance of the Kifangondo battle to the proclamation of the National Independence and its consolidation.
The general said so during a lecture on "Influence of the Kifangondo battle in the national and international context, as well as the proclamation of national independence", directed to students of the "Lusiadas" University.
He stated that the proclamation of the independence resulted from a long and hard political and armed war fought by Angolans.
"This battle had as its main objective the Independence of Angola, that's how on November 10 the enemy carried out intensive attacks on our troops", he explained.
It was during that process that the country's first president, António Agostinho Neto, proclaimed the independence in the early minutes of November 11.
That act of courage permitted the people to conquer its territory, sovereignty and symbols, setting the start for self-determination.
With the proclamation of the independence, South American, European and African countries, as ell as various international organisations started to recognise Angola's as a sovereign State.
