Titus Eleweke — The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Mirector of Mclilyville Consulting Limited, Mr. Michael Agaradana has advised the Federal Government to pay attention to the teaching of Mathematics, if Nigeria will become one of the best 20 top economies in the world by 2020.
Mr. Agaradana gave this advice during a Mathematics clinic, jointly organised by his firm and the Lagos State Ministry of Education for weak Mathematics students in the state's public schools at Amuwo Odofin Senior Secondary School.
He stressed that without giving adequate attention to the teaching of Mathematics in our schools, vision 2020 will be an illusion, because Mathematic is fundamental to technological development.
'The base for any meaningful development in any nation is Mathematics, we have to go back to the teaching of Mathematic, if we want to develop our economy' he said
To him, no nation in the world has been able to develop without paying adequate attention to science and technology, and Mathematic remain the only base for all technological advancement in the today' world .
He added that the best thing Nigeria must do now is to make sure that the teaching of Mathematic is taken seriously in our schools, for our economic development.
'If we want to compete with other countries of the world, we must enhance our skills in science and technology and the only way to enhance it, is to improve on our Mathematics knowledge base to compete favourable with other developed countries.
According to him, America is developed today because it has a very strong Mathematical base, just like China and India.
'Mathematics is very important in the development of any nation, because it is the base for science and technology. Without science and technology, no country can develop and without Mathematics no country can develop a strong science and technology base'
'America, Japan, China and India are developed because they have very strong Mathematics orientation and because they have strong economies, without technology which Mathematics is the engine room, there will not be any development.' he said
