column

Tunis — From November 10 to13, 2009 the Arab Women Organization (AWO), chaired by First Lady, Mrs. Leila Ben Ali organizes a media training session on "writing techniques for radio and television". The event will take place at the Tunis-based African Centre for Re-Training of Journalists and Communicators (CAPJC).

Experts in the audio-visual sector from the Organization's member countries, including Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sultanate of Oman, Yemen and Iraq will attend the event.

The training session is held in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in implementation of the information strategy for Arab women designed to present a true and balanced image of Arab women and their active contribution to the comprehensive and sustainable development.

The session will also underline the role played by the media in the fight against women's stereotypes and traditional image, highlight their successes in all areas and spread a societal culture promoting women's rights.

The Prize of the Best Journalistic Production on Arab Women was created in 2001 at Mrs. Leila Ben Ali's initiative to enhance women's image within the family and community. It also aims at encouraging journalists and professionals to take greater interest in the issue of Arab women and disseminate an objective and balanced image of women
