Nigeria: Cross River Assembly Member's Wife Kidnapped

Calabar — One of the wives of a Cross River State House of Assembly member represen-ting Bekwara Constituency, Mrs Victoria Omang Idiege, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Igoli, Ogoja, in the state.

Vanguard learnt,Tuesday, that the kidnappers are demanding a N50 million ransom to set her free.

According to Vanguard sources, the woman had gone to the Mater Dei International Nursery and Primary School, a Catholic educational institution, to pick her children at about 3:00pm when the incident happened.

"The woman came in her car and when she was about to park and move into the premises to pick her children, two men came out quickly from the car which had blocked her from behind and asked her to join them.

"When she made to scream, they showed her the guns with them and she controlled herself," said an eyewitness, who sought anonymity.

The gunmen reportedly took the woman to an unknown destination and at about midnight, put a call to her husband demanding for a ransom.

In a phone conversation, however, the personal assistant to the lawmaker, Mr. Willy Akobi, said "investiga-tions are still in progress."

and as such, we cannot tell you anything now, not even give you her photograph, in order not to jeopardise police work."
